English Immersion:   The English Immersion class is a class designed to increase the confidence and comfort of ESL students with conversational English.  The English Immersion class is our highest level of ESL classes and consists of 4 quarters of intensive conversational English in combination with advanced grammar and cultural arts.  Each quarter the students participate in a group project which encourages the use of English, as well as develops leadership skills.  Previous quarter projects have included; 1) a play researched, written, directed, and performed completely in English (including set design and costuming) – all accomplished by the students of the English Immersion class, 2) the implementation of a one-day pedestrian mall in cooperation with the Mainstreet and Historic Commissions of Pharr for the purpose of illustrating the benefits of a permanent pedestrian mall in the city of Pharr, and 3) an art show including sculpture and paintings on the general theme of poverty which included essays written by the students and presented digitally as a part of the presentation.
